BREAKING NEWS: WHBC Operations Manager Out

OMW hears from two reliable sources that WHBC/Canton operations manager Terry Simmons was let go this morning.

Simmons is not only OM for the NextMedia stations, he's been the co-host for WHBC-FM/94.1 "Mix 94.1"'s "Terry and Maddie in the Morning", and hands on programmer on the FM side of the operation.

OMW hears the move was made immediately following his show this morning on WHBC-FM.

More as we hear it...

Maybe he'll sign on as the new PD/OPS MGR/Morning guy/ at 101.7 when and if it ever goes on the air?

If they get the lead out and get the antennas and tower going. I look for us to get hit hard this year for freezing rain and snow.

This should have been done five years ago..after the disaster of the fall book in 2001..after the unprofessional conduct involving Amanda Wilson..after trying to destory the AM side..

Memo to ''Madison Woods'' and ''Kayleigh Kriss''--my crystal ball says its time to get the resumes polished and your MP3s ready, ladies..cause NextMedia is on a salary dumping frenzy..and my crystal ball has been perfect all summer and fall..

Let's review the body count on South Market during the past 11 months..at least 3 part timers..a full time news staffer..the IT guy..the GM..the GSM..an office manager..and now the OM..

Quite impressive..my sources tell me more than 300-thousand dollars have been slashed from the payroll this year..that's quite an accomplishment..

  5. Not often you hear about someone getting fired on a Thursday...especially the 16th of the month.

Did he get to keep his carts with the Peter Gunn, my three sons and Capt'n Kangeroo beds?

At least Simmons got two weeks salary..I've heard the guys who got blown out in July were let go on the 7th..in order to avoid paying them the extra week leading up to 15th as part of their severence packages..that's a clear indication of the sort of financial pickle NextMedia finds itself in..

What news staffer was let go at WHBC?

Go back to the July archives..the name escapes me at the moment..

    101.7 will be CHR.

  13. Anonymous5:33 PM

...and if it is, it will fail..CHR is a dying format..its demo is leaving radio for other media platforms..

Stewart at HBC? That would be choice. He'd give anything to be out of the Q. But would he have anything better to offer HBC?

The news staffer that was let go was Alan Zarek. He was let go in the first round of cuts. Rumor has it he's on the air in Missouri somewhere.

Stewart at 'HBC? Anything is possible..but I would imagine the programming will be done from Denver for the forseeable future..the place has been running on autopilot for a number of years..Pam Koch would likely kill for the OM slot..assuming they decide to fill it at all..

    Where is Stewart now?

I'm right here guys. If HBC wants to offer me afternoons again, I'll listen. As for whats going on at Market Street.........to coin a phrase....you ain't seen nothing yet boys and girls!

Tom is dead on correct..the rumors I'm hearing suggest an AM format change in the first quarter of 2007..as to the FM..''Bob and Sherri'' could be on speed dial in Denver..

WOW Terry got canned 9 years to the day when he called me at home and fired me. As for Madison Woods I don't know her so I'll say nothing about her except that the statement made about her and Kayleigh were uncalled for. Kayleigh is a hard worker and I hope she does survive. As for who could be brought in former air-talents TOM SULLIVAN,DOUG LANE AND THEY COULD SWITCH BRICE LEWIS FROM THE AM SIDE FOR AWHILE. MAX HAYWOOD WHO I BELIEVE STILL RESIDES IN CANTON. I could always come back to work at WHBC any days except sundays WHK AND THE SUNDAY OLDIES JUKEBOX HAVE ME AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE THAT FOR NOW,well maybe 'HK I'd leave SOJ NEVER JUST BECAUSE WE PLAY REAL OLDIES WHICH CLEVELAND IS STARVIN' FOR THE 6 DAYS WERE NOT ON THE AIR.

I'm all for bringing Doug Lane back. I grew up listening to him and Bob Krahling and eventually worked with him for a little while. Good guy.

I always hate to see anybody outts work. And I don't know Terry.I am wondering what his role was in WHBC-AM? I know he had the OM title, but was there much involvement with the AM side?

As far as a format change, where do they go? All the really good talk shows are taken.

I agree that Doug Lane was great on WHBC. I mean no disrespect to those who followed him, but HBC-AM sounded major market and more polished than they currently do. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the programming and guys like Tom Jarret. There is just a spark missing.

I agree with whomever said Simmons should have been gone 5 years ago... this isn't over yet.. look for format changes on AM and cuts in staff all around..

Oh, and all this talk of who should be replacing Simmons - Nextmedia is not in the habit of spending on staff.. Look for no OM and just a PD on FM and look up.. it's a bird ...it's a bird.

Look for the new PD at WHBC to be Garret Hart from WRQK

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous10:27 AM

I doubt Hart will becoming to WHBC,odds on favorite has to be Brice/or Kayleigh for the FM. Pam is not only the ND at 1480 she is also PD unless they give her the FM and promote Steve as the new ND. Hart just WOULDN'T BE A GOOD FIT WITH WHBC/NEXT MEDIA.

  26. Anonymous11:22 AM

Word is Hart was in a lunch meeting with the new HBC GM and GSM Pam Allen eariler in the week. Hart and Allen worked together at WRQK.

If NextMedia is indeed going to hire a PD for the FM which seems likely, they'll want a person from outside the organization without any warm and fuzzy Beaverkettle memories..that era has ended, and the ''country club'' has closed..

Maybe we will be able to wake up with Whoopi?

Maybe they can hire me back at Rock 107. I can bring back the Big Mattress with Judy Jetson Luke Skywalker and Han Solo
