RUMBLINGS: Sharon Reed To Houston?

We mark this item very clearly as "gossip", but it's from a good source for such things.

An alert OMW reader tipped us off that the popular industry gossip site NewsBlues is reporting Sharon Reed sightings in Houston.

The anchor/reporter for Raycom Media's WOIO/19 "19 Action News" was apparently seen, according to the NB folks, being "squired around" the studios of FOX Houston O&O KRIV/29, which has a vacant morning anchor slot. The item says Reed would appear to be "in line" for that position.

NB or OMW have no word on if the FOX outlet in market #10 called her on her World Famous Personal Cell Phone to bring her out to Texas...

OK, we couldn't resist. Please try to show as much restraint in your comments as we have in this item...

Try...

She's arguably the most talented TV anchor/reporter in Cleveland. I'm really suprised they haven't tried to give her something more to keep her here...or that someone across the street hasn't tried to lure her away.

Then again, this could be all about getting the leverage she needs to make a move like that happen. It's commonplace in TV and radio. Threaten to leave and get promoted by staying.

Did she call you on YOUR CELL PHONE to tell you she may be leaving?

Arguably, yes. Always on the losing end of that argument, but Reed's name is always injected into it nonetheless...often by interested parties and/or Channel 19/Reed cheerleaders.

See, e.g., the Cleveland.com TV forum.

Commitment is only skin deep.

Question: is this the national exposure Reed was counting on getting after the Body of Art report years ago?

I think it's great how NewsBlues headlined the story:

"Cleveland stripper eyes morning anchor job in Houston"

What a slap at Reed's "experience" and/or "credentials".

It's awfully hot in Houston...no clothing required. By the way, Fox Houston's morning show gets terrible ratings, Sharon will be right at home.

Wouldnt be suprised, Sharon seems to have ''friends'' at FOX news. One day, Catherine Bosley was on the syndicated 'The Morning Show' on FOX one day and when Bosley told her story and said where she works now(at WOIO), the hosts said say hi to our friend Sharon Reed. Sounds like she is some how connected to FOX, since she might go to an O&O

Talented? You've got to be kidding.

Props to OMW with this Buzz report.

such sharon haters! i do not know her, though i have watched her, and think that she is talented. why all the venom? i also thought that her coverage of the nude art was good. and, i think she is a good journalist. why is it that when a female exhibits the same behavior or ideals (or better ones!) than males that everybody starts talking gender smack( the browns; getting her groove on)? lighten up boys, and put the fangs away. wish her luck if she can better her career, in texas or cleveland.

if sharon leaves....ultimately nobdy will care after about two weeks........

life goes on.....ultimate;y she ain't no "thang"

in a market sise such as cle....the ND's have so much tape it ain't even funny....and...my guess is her ND already has a succession plan in place..(if he/she is smart).....

much ado about NADA

Bottom line on Sharon..for all the "buzz" she seems to create, she certainly doesn't create any ratings. Her shows are among the lowest rated of all the 19 newscasts. She draws controversy, not viewers.

If Sharon goes to FOX Houston, will Triv TV be cancelled?

Certain comments we felt were "over the line" were deleted, mainly ones of a personal nature. This item is being closed for comments.

But, not before our own editorial comments.

Ms. Reed brought much of this upon herself, with her own "body of work", as it were. (That's a pun on the now-infamous "nude series".)

We don't really feel sorry for her. She has a tendency to "join the fight", and we're actually surprised she hasn't shown up here. Maybe she is mindful of what she went through in Philadelphia.

In our opinion, it's difficult to use the phrase "high journalistic standards" close to Ms. Reed's name without breaking into gales of laughter.

But we have to hold our comments section to the same standard as we do for other personalities in this market or this state...even if we're pretty sure she likes the publicity, even negative.

So, assuming she lands this gig... good luck to her in Houston, and thanks for the memories in Cleveland.

(Honest, that wasn't an intended pun. Honest.)
