BREAKING NEWS: Munch In, Roda Out for WKNR Afternoon Drive

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Arts & Entertainment blog reports big changes at Good Karma sports talk WKNR/850 Cleveland.

PD columnist Mike McIntyre reports that Clear Channel WMJI/105.7-WMMS/100.7 sports director Mark "Munch" Bishop is headed for the 3-6 PM slot at "ESPN 850 WKNR", replacing Kenny Roda. McIntyre quotes unnamed sources that Roda will stay aboard at WKNR, though it is not clear what role he will take.

Bishop joins another former WMJI'er on the WKNR roster - mid-morning host Tony Rizzo. It would appear that the key to sports talk radio success in this market is doing sports for John Lanigan!

We don't know when "Munch" takes over the 3-6 PM slot. Some sources are suggesting it could be as soon as tomorrow, others say next Monday.

More as we hear more...

OK, turn down the volume dial on your radio. Mr. Big Volume is back.

They could have put him on the sister station. Bishop screams so loud, 1 kilowatt sounds like a clear channel.

At least he's not from Pittsburgh! I can finally listen to KNR again.

Big news out of Ytown too as Steve Granato takes back PD reigns at WMXY while current WAKZ/WMXY PD Jerry Mack heads to N.C. to be an OM. This leaves the PD position open at both WAKZ and WNCD wide open. A betting man would assume they will look to fill both positions with one person, no?

I think they'll put Roda on from 9p-midnight and do away with the "Wine and Gold"/"10th Inning" shows, since Roda will be effectively filling that spot.

That gives you 11 hours per day of local sports talk. Is that enough for you?

Rover needs to go. His show has gotten boring. I say bring back Pete and Foz. If you think Pete and Foz should come back contact mayor Frank Jackson and let him know how you feel

Good for Munch!

It's about time he gets some spotlight for himself!

Last week we read that WTVN had let Munch go from his Buckeye coverage. Frankly, I was thrilled. They honestly now can claim a right to the Best Buckeye coverage as pre and post game will now be listenable elements.

Don't get me wrong. Munch puts a lot emphasis on positive karma.....hmmmm karma.....Good Karma, but I am off topic. It's just that he is so syrupy gooey, sticky, yuck....

I don't often dis a talent, but I'm glad Cleveland now has him to themselves now.

Why would you leave a pair of big signal FMs in favor of a gig on a sports talk AM?

Who is going to do the Buzzard's promotions? Wasnt that pretty much Munch's daytime gig?

Munch has been doing sales for WMMS these past few months. Jeff Zukauckas is WMMS's promotions director.

Big deal. Munch moves to KNR and watch Cheap Channel will pick up Roda. Then Triv & Roda will all of the sudden by best buddies. Then Cheap Channel can get rid of Kevin Keane.

I may now check out the 3-7 PM slot on that station now.My main complaint about Roda (besides his being a creepy Steelers fan)is his dry,serious-as-a-heart-attack approach to sports talk.Someone should tell him he's in the entertainment business.

Good move for Munch...We need a change. Roda is too serious, and not fun enough. Put Roda on from 6pm to 9pm, and get rid of that horrible Greg Brenda.

Looks like Munch left Clear Channel too soon. Their 1350 in Akron flips from lib-talk to all sports this weekend. He could have been a star.

Hey Munch, if you happen to read this!

I am going to try to email you, but I am not sure if they have yanked your email address yet.

As much I as hat you going across the street, I am so happy for you. You are a huge reason why I have realized how lucky I am to be in radio.

God Bless!

You still won't be working a day in your life!

Glad to hear 1350 will return to sports...at least I can hear the signal. Lib-talk? Who wants THAT?

This move with Roda just SHOCKS me. It sure seemed like CK was all "buddy buddy" with him during the transition. Now the knife. Doubt he'll be paired with Brinda; too expensive. But Greg, buddy, I had a drive tonight & caught the show. Gotta have more solid content than "which is bigger news, the Cavs playoff drive or Browns draft talk?" Snoozefest, bro.

I like Roda's candid observations, and don't need the "entertainment" frills some of these posters apparently gotta have.

cleveland sportsfan's dreams have come true!!!!!! now don't do anything silly like give Roda a BETTER timeslot. (and leave rome alone). munch is beloved by cleveland sports fans, and he knows his sports and audience. his show will be incredibly hopping when football season begins(think mms in the late 80's on a monday morning) ]

roda's "know it all, screamfest was terrible and tired" even the best national talkers never claimed to know sports more than ALL the coaches in town, and that is how roda came off every day.

here's hoping he gets the 9 to midnight slot so i can watch survivor and law and order then go to bed without even having to here him again.

It's Official:

Munch 3-6
Roda 6-9
Brinda - 10th Inning
Reghi- Wine and Gold Show

Anonymous said...

Pretty soon they're going to relegate Brinda to the "This is a test" announcements.

This just in: Munch takes PMD, Roda takes 6 to 9 PM, and Brinda takes Tribe postgame show.

Also: Michael Reghi takes Cavs "wine & gold" postgame show.

3 PM today: Roda, Munch, Reghi, Brinda, and Craig the K take phone calls.

By the way Craig Karmazin sounds just like Aaron Goldhammer

Can I call into Munch's first show and say "frickin'" just one more time?

ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz. Wake me up when KNR gets sold again. Maybe Tri-C can buy them and you can finally call it a "college" radio station.
