How Far The Mighty Have Fallen

UPDATE: A Helpful OMW Reader tells us that DLR will also be at Cleveland's House of Blues on August 20th, as a part of his summer concert schedule at what appears to be mainly smaller venues. The Cleveland event was apparently even announced on Roth's former home station in the market, WNCX/98.5! ("You hated him on the radio, now come hear him sing instead of talk!", we wonder?)

-------------

When we started 2006, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth was on a worldwide stage... as the anointed replacement for morning radio icon Howard Stern on seven of Stern's outlets, including Stern's New York flagship and Cleveland's WNCX/98.5.

You all know how that turned out. CBS Radio was so desperate to replace Roth that they turned to once-shunned Opie & Anthony to replace him.

But, Roth's voice will be heard somewhere in Northeast Ohio next month...just not on the radio. It turns out those rumblings that "Diamond Dave" wanted to get back on the concert circuit were not just rumors.

The Youngstown Vindicator reports that Roth will headline a July 3rd concert at Niles' Eastwood Field. That venue is better known as the home of minor league baseball's Mahoning Valley Scrappers - the Cleveland Indians' New York-Penn League affiliate in the region. Roth will follow an "unannounced special guest" with a 9:30 performance that night. (We'll assume that it's not the Van Halen reunion Roth keeps talking about as being "inevitable".)

Promoter Tony Rubino tells Warren Tribune-Chronicle entertainment writer Andy Gray that "(Roth) is a friend of mine, and he said he'’s going to put on a show you'’re not going to forget about." Uh huh. We believe you, Tony.

Neither article mentions Roth's disastrous run at morning drive radio.

It'll cost you just south of $30 - and the gas to get to Niles - if you really want to hear DLR in concert...
