BREAKING NEWS: WBNX-DT Finally Up

This may be bigger news to you if you're a fan of the CW Network's prime-time lineup, and have a high-definition TV.

OMW got a tip that Winston Broadcasting CW affiliate WBNX/55 Akron has finally lit up its long-awaited digital signal.

We lit up our own HDTV set, and sure enough, it's there, apparently at a decent power level.

We imagine that like most such installations, WBNX still has to test and make adjustments to the signal. But this is the first ever sign of the WBNX-DT signal, which broadcasts on RF channel 30...

The signal seems to be somewhat powerful. However, it's fluctuating quite a bit here in Akron, and I'm assuming that this is because they're testing right now. It's hard to watch without experiencing some drop-outs, but I'm sure that this will be fixed soon. I tried moving my antenna around, but this didn't do much to stop the drop-outs.

Do they even broadcast in stereo yet?

I have a question about WBNX-DT? Are there any sub channels up outside of WBNX. I remember when they brought the topic of digital TV up on the now defunct Heart to Heart with Annie and Al a few years ago they brought up how they could multicast because of the extra channels they would have. That with the Earnest Angley saying the 90 @ 9 club would be on more than once a day after the primetime showing was cut and it would be on a subchannel. Are there any plans for multicasting?

Wonderful! Now I can watch the hot women of "One Tree Hill" in HD!

Love ya, OMW! ;)

Heh. Thanks for the "love", but it's still early for them. CW programming tonight is still upconverted SD, and looks a little flaky/glitchy on the encoding.

In other words, they're working on it, we would presume. We just caught them before dress rehearsal...

WBNX finally went HD, but tonight's Supernatural was definitely not in HD, it was upconverted SD-there were sidebars and letterbox bars. Also WEWS-DT now has 5.1 surround sound on their ABC HD primetime programs.
A GREAT day for digital TV in Northeast Ohio!
