WUAB Unveils "My 43" Branding

We don't know how long they've been using it, but Raycom Media UPN affiliate WUAB/43 has started using the "My 43" on-air branding, pictured here at the start of tonight's 10 PM edition of "19 Action News".

It's not the first presence of "My 43" at the sister station to CBS affiliate WOIO/19. OMW reported earlier this month that WUAB's website has been replaced by a temporary placeholder for the upcoming "My43.net".

It shows you how much we do not watch WUAB...OMW readers tell us the new branding's been in place for a while now.

But the future Cleveland market affiliate of My Network TV is not alone in abandoning its current network identity in the move to a new one, in the wake of the end of The WB and UPN, and the upcoming start of My Network TV and The CW.

WUPV/65 Richmond VA, that market's UPN affiliate, is now fully branding as "CW Richmond"...it picks up the CW network affiliation in that market. The WB programming in Richmond had been airing on NBC affiliate WWBT/12 in late nights.

One reason for these changes is apparent to those in the TV business - the July ratings book is now over.

As of this writing, Cleveland's incoming CW affiliate, current WB outlet WBNX/55, is still sporting the "Cleveland's WB" logo...

The my 43 logo has been running for a few weeks now. Bumpers, promos, and promos are mixed. They still fore example use the UPN 43 for public service and for their EAS test they still use "the 43 block logo with WUAB in place of UPN" from a few years ago.Proms for the my network TV shows, the simpsons. that 70's show, and the king of queens are all my 43 eventhough they still air the old upn 43 promos time to time. As of Monday, WBNX is still runing the Cleveland's WB logo on everything. MYnetwork tv has a officall website complete with a affiliate map that only lists 2o stations. If you can believe it WYTV has been keeping MYYTV a secert with no promo's or logo execprt on one page of the website and one promo for their extere makeover my hometown project.

If you were switching to the MY Non-network, wouldn't you keep it a secret, too? You ought to read Matt Roush's dispatch-blog from the TCA Conference regarding the "My Net" presentation. It's all on tvguideonline.com. Hilarious stuff. He says there IS something "worse than nothing...the MY Network shows."

Ancient Morgan Fairchild and Bo Derek: now there's a great demo-grabber.

BTW, I've seen Ch. 55 airing some transitional spots every day, sort of explaining what's coming, with combining two networks.

There's been a lot more stations re-branding as "my" something than as "CW" something recently. Why? "CW" can only refer to the network, which isn't up yet. "My" something can mean anything you want it to mean.

...Such as, MY, OH MY, OH MY...these recycles telenovellas are embarrassing.

If you look at this network (MY Network TV) you realize that the heads of NEWSCORP are the smartest people in broadcasting. First they take progrsmming thst was intended for first run and make it into a network, second hire people past their prime(Morgan Fairchild,Bo Derek, and Tatum ONeil) for these reworked univision rejects, and third convience 170 differnet markets inculding stations like WYTV to start a sub channel to air this mess. That alone make them smart. But remeber that MYTV has a bare bones staff, low overhead, shows produced by 20th television and a track record of turning trash into gold. Hell if this doesn't work out for them I'm sure they can find someone stupid enough to but the network. If they were cartoons we could call this the all new disney afternoon.

Good point about the "My" branding...it basically means nothing more than a new station name that sounds like just a name change, for people who haven't heard of MNTV.

As far as WYTV's "MyYTV" goes, there's good reason for them not to overdo it. The channel doesn't exist right now. I'm sure they'll still do pre-launch branding, but there's no use in overdoing it if you can't tune to the station yet.

"My" launches 9/5, and CW launches 9/18 (new material 9/20). The "My" stations have to do things a little earlier, in general, due to that...

I have heard that they are testing the signal and that some systems in town have the channel reserved for it. People that have heard of WYTV's entire project(myytv, extreme makerover my hometown, 5:30 news, going 24/7,downtown newsroom) want to know more about it. They have shown the logo on atleast on air promo and webbanner on the site advertising for the local etreme makeover my hometown and people around here are very curious to see what it is. Besides if they still hold the rights after all of this mess with WOIO, then they may want to air either ABC or the browns preseason games there. Most of their programming they have rights to begins in Setember anyway so what they would fill the timw with is agood quess. But I can tell you this WYTV has created on hell of a buzz in this town and that is not a bad thing.

I suppose with Traficant behind bars and out of the news, Y-town has to buzz about something. I'd think the Clarett-fires-his-legal-team just before trial might be a more intriguing topic for the dinnertable.

Many in Youngstown EXPECTED Clarett to have screwed up. That and Clarett now p[laying for the Mahoning valley hitmen which as of today has now offical place to play. When it comes to Clarett he broke one of the fundemental rules: donot scare Jim Tressel's image. I you do then we are done with you. BTW I want to be on the record and say that eventhough Clarett did mess up he deserves a second chance and the chance to prove himself. What WYTV did or I say is doing is big not really for myytv as much as they are commited to this town and feel tha Youngstown is woth over a half a million dollars inculding downtown. Just look at what is going on in the downtown area and realize that most of the new activity was due to either state, federal, or local grants/loans. WYTV is putting up their own cash for all of this and they feel that a second station is needed. The buzz is about the overall need to see this town grow and them doing there part to make postive growth instead of watching other businesses leave.

#1: Youngstown is another victim of Ohio's twisted economic practices and decades of inept political leadership. Wish 'em well, just like the many other cities hurting.

#2: A second-chance for Clarett? He HAD it already. After his lying/stolen prop. case was "swept under the rug" in Columbus, he took his 2nd chance and PULLED A GUN on two people. Do you really think this guy is capable of being rehabilitated? His brother's already in prison, so it runs in the family. Once a thug, always a thug...at least with this kid's greed, sense of entitlement, and lack of common sense.

#3: Read the PD's editorial page today (Fri.). Three readers RIP apart Sam Fulwood & his illogical spin on the WOIO case...all three cheering Randy Lerner on in his case to put 19/43 out of the football biz.

As for number 2, you have a point but Clarett at least in his press converfence with the hitmen, I feel has grown up. As for number 1, the local polticians have done there job in runing the Mahoning valley into the ground and still do so for that matter. The cavs may be on FSN Ohio only come next year. http://www.cleveland.com/search/index.ssf?/base/sports/1154075977323710.xml?s1bro&coll=2

I like the new logo. It looks sharp and it has a unique feel to it.

It may just be a Time Warner thing, but anyone in the Canton area notice the audio is HORRIBLY distorted on channel 6 (43)??

You notice it as soon as you put the station on. At least it's been like that all morning today.

Anonymous said...

How can you NOT notice it? It's an ongoing problem, and very annoying.

Don't forget about the picture hanging up and the video problems they have during the jeffersons and all in the family. And the audio problems they have with the simpsons as well.

The real problem with this network is that it is replacing some really cool shows with just two shows that are essentially soaps that will run 6 nights a week in prime time..

Expect this turkey to get it neck stretched about Thanksgiving time.. stupidest idea ever tried in network TV.
