Scripps has finally found a buyer for WOAC/67 Canton, and the four other stations formerly owned by its former Shop at Home division.
The five stations are being sold to Multicultural Television Broadcasting in a $170 million deal.
The company is a new TV offshoot of Multicultural Radio, which owns a number of foreign language/brokered radio stations in major markets like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
The company made news outside the foreign language radio world when it was involved in a legal dispute with Air America Radio. Multicultural's WNTD/950 Chicago and KBLA/1580 Santa Monica/Los Angeles were the liberal talk radio network's initial affiliates in those markets until Multicultural owner Arthur Liu kicked off the network in a payment dispute...

Just what the area needs 2 worthless stations.
WOAC-67 and WQHS-61 :(
I sure hope that 67 doesn't go the way of 61. That would stink for the general population of the area. Not that the current format is any better.
When is Scott Davis coming back?
It seems as if this "Multicurtural" company is a new startup on the TV side. it may take them time to find enough foreign proramming to fill the airtime. Maybe they'll fill in with America One or Urban America TV..not likely but is possible.
Don't fear change, just be aware of how you deal with it.
You can become better or you can become bitter.
At least someone is doing something --- I hope they can positively serve the viewers they are trying to reach.
And, by the way, SD isn't looking backwards, he's moving forward!
But it's Great that folks still remember his hard work for our community; follow his example.
Local Television was always the underdog --- Do as much as you can with as little as possible. Here's to honor the memories of Sherry Lee, SD, The Son of Ghoul, even, The Cool Ghoul and all the great people that attended the University of WOAC-TV @ Canton.
"Catch The Spirit of 67" was their mantra - I wish the new owners luck, wisdom and success.
Somebody ought to tell "Broadcasting & Cable" that Canton is not in Cleveland.

I don't think that I have a fear of change, I welcome the end of ANY shopping channel - especially on a cable system loaded with them. I was just really hoping for a return of a LOCAL TV station to the public airwaves.
Channel 61 does a fine job with their Univision feed and I feel they meet the need of the local Spanish speaking community.
It is too bad the Canton area (whose population is mostly non-Spanish speakers) has no real local station. Even a return to the old TV67 format would be welcome.
Always wishing for a return to the locally owned stations - long live WOAC and WAKC(R)!

Scott Davis has been working at Canton City Schools Television-Time Warner Cable Channel 11..Hosting sports shows and guiding the student broadcasters and behind the scenes personnel.
For the record, The Son of Ghoul is on low power channels 29 (Kent/Akron) and repeater WAX 35 (Parma/Cleveland). Both stations also carry some AmericaOne and Urban America TV programming. I like when Urban American TV does their ID that says "We're uplifting the urban community", and then they go to real low budget professional wrestling.
Scott Davis continues to do outstanding work as the p.a. announcer for McKinley football games and hoops as well. FIRST DOWN.......BULLDOGS!
It's a real shame that the Cleveland/Akron/Canton market would have 4 wasted full power stations with Channels 17, 23, 61 & 67.
