Labor Day Weekend Drop In

Just a couple of items this time around:

ROVER'S CLEVELAND GLORY: We weren't sure of the timing, but it sounds like WXRK/92.3 "K-Rock" morning doggie Shane "Rover" French has returned to his home kennel at the CBS Radio Cleveland alt-rocker.

We haven't done a lot of solid listening to "Rover's Morning Glory", but we stumbled upon the show the other morning...hearing Rover ride herd over a "Dieter" stunt in downtown Cleveland, and then mentioning that they took time recently for moving.

In addition to "K-Rock", Rover and the gang are still heard on the rest of the show's syndication empire, including CBS Radio "Free FM" talker WKRK/97.1 Detroit...the show's largest market after its departure from Chicago...

RONNIE'S GIG: Some OMW readers pointed out that one of Ronnie Duncan's first duties after being hired for regular work at local WB-to-CW affiliate WBNX/55 would be as a co-host on the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.

Duncan co-hosts the telethon's local segments along with WBNX program director Annie Keith and another interesting name, Clear Channel Cleveland regular Daune Robinson.

We're told now that Duncan has done the telethon in the past, so we guess we don't watch it enough to remember that from the past couple of years.

Duncan was hired by the Cleveland market's incoming CW affiliate a while back to do sports-related work. He continues as host of Radio One talk WERE/1300's local morning drive show. For more on Duncan, check out Roger Brown's next column in the Plain Dealer...

Rover's show really needs some help. Even before he left for Chicago the show was going down hill. I don't know why people think Dieter is so great. They guy is a moron. I thought the show was much better with Rover, Duji and Lunchbox. The Hook Up is getting old. Nobody in Detroit cares about some girl in Cleveland getting a date. It was fine when the show was just a local show. I think K-Rock should drop Rover's show, move O&A to mornings and play music the rest of the day. They could move Bull To middays, put Rachael in afternoons and put either Pat or Verlane on nights.

he has a 20 share in mornings he is fine.

Ronnie was mismatched as the Cavs P.A. announcer. But can someone share what his "strength" is? I haven't heard him on radio, and I don't watch the telethon. But since he's been around the area so long in many capacities, I'd just like to hear what his talents really are... Any help?

His talent is finding people to give him job opportunities. He has no talent whatsoever yet he always finds someone dumb enough to hire him. TV,Radio,CAVS, etc. The only problem he has that after a short period of time, people finally realize that he really has no talent and that most people (other than Roger Brown) really don't like him.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Ronnie has no talent. The guy has to be able to bring something to the table or else he wouldn't be hired so many times. I just wonder why he's been canned so many times. He can't seem to hold a job. Think about it. I have basic cable and he has been on 4 (channel 19)/6 (channel 43), 7 (WBNX), 20 (Village TV), and probably a couple others that I have missed.

Ronnie along with Duane Robinson were on last year the only one who isn't a part of the broadcast is Michael Settoni former tv5 anchor

a 20 share?? that's a blatant lie.

For the record, we've heard that Rover does very, very well in Cleveland, which continued even after his move to Chicago.

But the words "20 share" have not been in the conversations we've heard.

That'd almost be impossible for any show these days, actually.

When Rush Limbaugh left his local station in Sacramento to go national out of New York City, he was getting 20 shares (12-plus) regularly in California's capital. The year? 1988.

Ronnie should be a host at WKNR, heck, WFAN in New York!

Ronnie Duncan was a host at WKNR doing Middays when Cablevision owned them. He was fired when Jacor took over. I don't understand why he keeps getting hired either

I saw Ronnie work as a sportscaster many years ago in Indiana. He was engaging, talented and knowledgeable. I always looked for him in large market television and wonder why isn't there now.
