OMW hears from a good source on what we believe is an exclusive: Euclid resident Chuck Booms, who's been hosting weekend late night and fill-in shifts on FOX Sports Radio, has left the building. Well, virtually, that is, since he did his programs via ISDN from Northeast Ohio.
We hear that Booms was officially no longer employed by the sports talk radio network as of last Friday.
We heard Chuck do a show a couple of weeks ago in his regular Sunday night time slot with veteran San Diego sports talk voice John Fricke, who listeners heard solo in that spot last weekend. Instead of a preview of a possible two-host show, the program would appear to have been Fricke's audition to replace Booms.
The local sports talker and comedian is best known in sports talk radio for his previous drive-time stint on FSR, as a co-host with Kevin Kiley on a program called "Kiley and Booms".
He's done occasional radio work in Northeast Ohio, including his entry as one of the auditioners for an opening on Clear Channel talk WTAM/1100 - the now-9 AM to noon slot taken by Bob Frantz. And back when the company's liberal talk WARF/1350 Akron "Radio Free Ohio" was still a sports station, Booms did some work for that station as well.
And we've seen Chuck's name in our own comments section. Chuck, if you're still reading OMW and would like to answer this, our E-Mail is up there at the left hand side of the screen...

Chuck may be a victim of his own personality. His on-air presentation, unfortunately, comes across as arrogant, sometimes demeaning to callers, and many of his opinions are so far out in left-field, the average listener is just turned off. Maybe this schtick would work better in Youngstown, home of football's vaunted "Hitmen."
If not for Lanigan, Booms wouldn't even be a radio host. Lanigan used to have Booms on all the time. Rumor is there was a falling out. IMO Booms not that good.
I was looking thru an old Akron U. yearbook, and saw "Chuck Booms" in action as an assistant basketball coach. He could always return to his old gig--imparting his all-knowing wisdom to today's spoiled athletes. Wonder how long that'd last?
Here is a three fold mynetwork tv update in Ohio:
1). Here is myytv's new line up:
http://www.business-journal.com/MyYTV.asp
2.) My Network Tv signed up a station In Toeldo on ch 48. According to the my network tv website
3). My network TV in Columbus is on the air and has been airing programs for a couple of days at least. According to their websits schedule.
Are you assuming that someone (um, anyone) cares about MyTV news? Don't think so.
Among the many other things he has done, Chuck Booms was also the morning DJ on the old Jammin' 92 FM (before it became the eXtreme station).
His was an unusual morning show--it had lots of music instead of the inane trivial talk that dominates most morning shows on pop music stations. I liked it.
And it lasted just six weeks. He simultaniously had a show picked up by Comedy Central (Comics on Delivery)
There was one other piece to that show, which wasn't on for long. One installment invovled having someone auditioning for a show on WTEM-AM in D.C. Insted, mgmt gave Booms a show instead, them paired him up with Kevin Keily, who also worked at WTEM at the time.
Before the Jam'n gig, Booms also auditioned for the WMMS morning show - which went to Liz Wilde instead.
- Nathan Obral
Didnt Chuck Booms get banned from Les Levine's show too? You know things are bad when you are banned from a cable access show
Keily and Booms was the best and funniest radio programming ever. It is a shame they couldn't keep it together, or better yet - revive it.
Cleve browns sucked before, they suck now, they will ALWAYS suck.
Chuck Booms is the best thing that ever happened to talk radio. He tells it like it is and isn't afraid offending anybody.
Chuck Booms is a Great Radio Host. Tells it like it is, even though Iron Side could round First base Quicker I still back Chuck Booms.
And this is from the "Blue with the View".
