More New Network Stuff

The two local affiliates of incoming TV networks The CW and MyNetworkTV are unveiling more online.

Raycom Media's WUAB/43 has unveiled a new website entirely for the occasion. "Cleveland's Go-To Place For Everything" promises: "MY FRIENDS, MY SHOWS, RIGHT HERE".

It's a clear attempt to capitalize on that certain popular "My" website, MyNetworkTV parent NewsCorp/FOX's "MySpace", with blog links, dating tips and music and "hangout" information.

Over in CW land, incoming affiliate WBNX/55 has put up an extensive section on the new network, including promo video produced both by the network and by the station.

That latter video announces that WBNX will pick up reruns of the sitcom "George Lopez" in 2007, and the syndicated run of the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives" in 2008.

It also shows what would appear to be the final "WBNX CW" logo, though the video loop didn't seem to use the color blue for the WBNX call letters. The top of the CW page says "Cleveland CW".

Despite the new content, WBNX's "Trends" page hasn't changed much - since the station changed the "endeavoring for" date to September 2006 for the upcoming WBNX-DT digital signal. But the link to "WB Shows in HD" has now been changed to list The CW's HD shows...

Why is tonight's steelers game on fox sports Pittsburgh? http://msn.foxsports.com/regional/pittsburgh If Pittsburgh cable can air the game why can't Cleveland? I thought the preseason games had to be OTA? WBNX's new logo looks bad. It just doesn't look right. And when you make it with the blue lettering on top ugh.As for my 43 it seems that it is more of a myspace profile as oposed to a television station website.
As for desperate housewives, I thought that the FOX station group bought the rights for all of its markets. Speaking of FOX, FOX plans to steam its network shows on its O&O websites inculding Cleveland: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6364043.html

I don't know the answer to the DH question, but WBNX is clearly advertising it as coming in 2008 in the video on their CW page. Wait until nearly the end of that video.

About the FOX streaming - it's up now on 9 FOX O&Os, not including WJW. It is only available, it appears, on the newly revamped "MyFox(city)" websites.

It'll be up here whenever FOX 8 converts their site, I assume.

If you try going to one of the other cities and using "FOX on Demand" to stream shows, it detects your IP address and says you're not in market... and won't let you do it.

I'm the VO for Toledo's new CW (WT05). Have a lot of new copy to cut. Funny thing...WT05 is not part of my DirecTV package. I can't even see/hear my own promos.

Detroit's WB presently doesn't have a DirecTV contract. I was getting the Miami FL WB. Recently DirecTV switched me to Baltimore's. I'm told by my peeps at WT05 that they're working on something for local DirecTV customers.

It's partly good that I can't get WT05 here...I can't second guess my reads, lol!

VO Guy,

Are you outside of DirecTV's Toledo spot beam?

I just checked DirecTV's site local channel lookup for ZIP code 43601, and it does show "WB" on channel 14. I'd assumed that was WT05...

The video for some odd reason you can actually download and save to your computer. That is a new thing for WBNX (they always protected it) and for that matter it is not a real-file (real meadia).

Desperate Housewives has been picked up on the FOX O&O's that are going to be affiliated with My Network TV not FOX. So WJW is pretty much out.

the originator IS KDKA TV 2 so it is OTA.

the carriage on fsn p burgh was not revealed to stations along the steeler tv network.....

they were caught quite by surprise...if i were running one of those affils. i'd ask for some rights fee money back

I personally like the WBNX/CW new look and logo. It's much easier to read than the previous Cleveland's WB that had the small WBNX underneath (at least their on-air version). The whole CW concept stands out. How can it not, with that color green? I'm anxious to see how their website will develop with this new look. I also heard they are video taping people at malls to get their ideas and comments on air (sort of a youtube but broadcast style). Belden Village mall in N. Canton is filled with the WBNX/CW banner displays thoughout. Anyone else see similar in any other Northeast Ohio malls? What I would give to get one of those huge Supernatural banners when their done with it.

The CW folks have a deal with the Westfield malls, of which BV is one:

Some of the larger market CW stations are even getting the network's show stars at those malls.

When the WB had the promotion with K-mart, many people seek out everything that had the stars of the wb on that was in a K-mart store from the promotion. I would suggest going to the mall and asking if they would let you have one of the baners after they take it down.I'm sure they would say yes since they will pitch it anyway.
The malls here in the Youngstown area have no CW baaners from WBCB or my network TV banners from my-ytv but on air that is all they are talking about.

I found out that the malls won't be giving away these banners after all. Looks like WBNX will keep them for future use. Oh well, it was worth a try.

That is indeed a first. Most malls and stores when it comes time to remove banners and other signs like that it gets pitched into the dumpster. Try contacting WBNX and ask about it. I know they were giving away old wb stuff to people who would enter the contest.
