While Waiting for Shoes to Drop

And there's at least a pair of shoes on their way to that position...

HOT IN HD: Cumulus top 40 WHOT/101.1 Youngstown is turning on the HD juice, according to an item in today's AllAccess. The station calls itself "the first in Eastern Ohio" to do so, which would presumably not count all the major Cleveland market stations running HD carriers right now.

"Hot 101" programmer John Trout tells the trade website that he "threw the switch" to turn on the station's IBOC carrier at 5 PM on Wednesday. In the item, he nodded to the station's broadcast history in the Mahoning Valley, and linked himself to the station's only two previous program directors in its 51 year history, Dick Thompson and Tom Pappas.

Much of that history, of course, was on the AM side of things. There's no word if WHOT plans an HD2 subchannel, or if the number of HD-capable radios in the Youngstown/Warren market has gotten into double digits yet...

SORT OF NORTHEAST OHIO RUMOR: We're only placing this here so we can confirm it later.

OMW hears that a former Northeast Ohio talk radio host is about to be without a show in his current market (well outside the area). The station involved appears to be ending his show, the only local talk show on the station, in favor of a fully syndicated schedule...

Trout's name should NEVER be included in the same sentence along with Youngstown PD legends like Dick Thompson and Tom Pappas.

Thompson and Pappas built HOT into one of the most succesful and respected CHR stations in the country; in the 1990's, getting your song on HOT still meant something in the industry, even though the Youngstown market was dwindling in size.

Trout's legacy - TANKING the station. It disgusts me.

Now that trout got a HD transmitter, when does the Simon Road piss fight between Trout, Kennedy, and Steele begin? I'm sure Kennedy and Steele just love this. Mr.Trout gets a new toy and they don't. As for rock 104, I expect to see it gome within a year. After MO left and Loboy moving over to hot/moonlighting at WYTV,the station is not the same. Rating wise it is going down and there's nothing that can be done. They should of never built the station around MO. Very bad dacision Cumulus it will cost you.

Why don't they just find another Mo? Shock-rock jocks...dime a dozen.

Hell, forget the shock rock jock--I'll do it cheap!

Let me get my materials together...

I thought the chain of command/who we give a damn about the most, who is the most important, and who gets what they want list was:
1)WQXK
2.)WYFM
3.)WHOT
4.)WWIZ
5.)WBBW
6.)WPIC/WLLF
7.)WSOM
How in the Hell did WHOT get to the top of the list? Last I checked, the WHOT transmitter was not that old. I know that WYFM & WQXK have transmitters that are less than 6 years old, but hoe does HOT rate?
As for finding a replacement for MO they feel that Styles on afernoon drive fits that bill. I think rock 104's time has come and gone and they are looking for a new format. Only 2 full timers, 2 part timers, and no PD. its only a matter of time. Can you say Jack 104 WWIZ-FM Mercer-Youngstown We plan want you want. It sounds good to me. They fire or reassign the DJ's and go off the bird 24/7 they will save money and bring a new format to town.It might happen.

OMW:
Just a wild shot in the provervial dark: Would the "well outside the area yet former NE Ohio" talk host..be Eric Hogue?..If so, WHK preferably WHKW needs to pick him up pronto

bring back Foz and everything will be ok

Could they be selling Rock 107 so they can move/COL WWIZ and increase the power? It was said that they could not move rock 104 because they owned to many stations in town. Could this be the begining of a all new more powerful, now format at 103.9 MHZ?

Keep guessing. You may be right, or wrong, about the second item.

We have enlisted the services of one of the local newspaper folks in that talk show host's market, so we should find out something fairly soon.

I'm guessing Eric Hogue, formerly with WHK and now in Sacramento.
